Dec 7th 2009:  All-Ireland Cross Country Uneven Ages — Update

Official Statement from Athletics Ireland

Athletics Ireland is concerned about difficulties that arose during some of the Juvenile races at the AAI Uneven Ages Cross Country in Coleraine on Sunday.

A full and thorough review of this competition will take place as a result and all processes and procedures will be examined

Dec 7th 2009:  All-Ireland Cross Country — Uneven Ages

Our only competitor, Tadhg Murtagh, was part of the fiasco that was the All-Ireland uneven aged cross country championships on Sunday. His u/11 race required 4 restarts before most of the athletes managed to get away. Mayhem ensued at the first bend when many young kids fell in a pile up which meant many could not continue and failed to finish. In the end Tadhg finished well down the field but given that he was sick for most of the preceding week he can be proud of his run. Congratulations to his Kildare county team mates who won bronze in the county team competition. News from the event indicates that further mayhem ensued to the extent that it looks likely that the boys u/13 and girls u/15 events may be completely re-run again — date and venue to be decided.

Nov 27th 2009:  Christmas Training Break

The boys u/12 were led home by John Fitzsimmons who took gold with a very impressive run. The team of Cashel Hayden, Robbie Kelly, Conor Kelly and Alex McCann were unlucky to finish 4th in the team event 8 points behind the 3rd place team.

In the boys u/14 a two horse race developed between Niall Kelly and a Naas athlete with the Naas athlete eventually overcoming Niall who claimed second place with ease.
